Homework/ Independent Study Clubs

Again, as promised in an earlier blog, here is a copy of our Homework/Independent Study Support Club timetable. As you will see, this covers all subject areas – if you have a problem or want to take a subject further, why not go along to one of the club sessions?

This timetable will soon improved with the introduction of a whole Academy Study Support Club before and after school … more details will be distributed next term!

Y10, Y11 and Post 16 – A selection of independent study and homework overview sheets

Please find below a selection of the different subject homework/independent study overview sheets that were issued towards the beginning of term through student mail. In a similar way to the Key Stage 3 sheets, these will be updated at the beginning of next term, but we thought these might be useful in the meantime!

Year 7, 8 & 9 homework/independent study overviews

As promised in an earlier blog, we are publishing sheets that show the homework/independent study that students are set in each of their subjects in Years 7, 8 and 9. The sheets below are for the Spring Term (which were sent home by student mail at the beginning of the term) to give an idea of what they look like and what they contain. We are in the process of putting the summer term sheets together and will publish these after the holidays. We hope the documents below will be a useful guide of what to look out for…

Good luck to the maths challenge students

As a result of Park Hall winning the Solihull Maths Challenge earlier in the year, Park Hall is now competing in the West Midlands Maths Challenge later in the week. This will see a team of Year and Year 9 students competing against 20 other schools from across the West Midlands. We wish them the best of luck and are sure that they will do us proud … and once again thank Mr Hussain for all that he does to make such events possible.

End of Term Approaches – Time to Celebrate!

It only seems like yesterday since we were breaking up for the Christmas holidays and yet here we are approaching the last week of term … time flies when you are having fun and it has been an action packed term as I hope the last few weeks of my ‘blogging’ and the Park Hall Chronicle show …

As we approach the holidays, it is time to celebrate which we will do on Friday in our special assemblies which are themed, “I’m in Park Hall, Get Me Out of Here!” (Based on the TV show, not a comment on Park Hall!) We hope that everyone will be there to join in with the fun and also to celebrate all our students’ successes this term. (As well as Friday, it is also very important that all students should attend each day of this final week in order to continue with their courses).

We have sent a letter out to parents/carers, but just in case you havent received it, there are some small alterations to the timing of the days this week to allow the Celebration Assemblies to happen:

  • Wednesday: we do not have staff training as it has been moved to Friday and so all students should arrive by 8.50 am for a normal Tutor/Assembly Period
  • Friday: all students should arrive at 9.10am as we will run the staff training session we would have had on Wednesday from 8.30 to 9.10am. We will then hold the special Celebration Assemblies and Tutor Periods and students will be dismissed for an early finish at 12.30pm (NOT 1.30pm as detailed in the letter distributed last week). [NB We will provide supervision for students until 3.00pm on Friday for those parents/carers that require it - please inform Ms Kernan in writing if you would like to take advantage of this service].

I would like to thank our parents/carers, students, Governors and staff for all the hard work, time and enthusiasm they have put into everything they have done this term to make sure they and Park Hall continue to go from strength to strength! A big WELL DONE to everyone and I hope you have both a relaxing and fun packed holiday!

Academy extra-curricular programme

Did you know, students are only in lessons for about 15% of their time! Whilst some people might argue this is more than enough, research shows that if you add to your studies by attending extra-curricular sessions, then your chances of being successful rocket!

Why not take a look at this term’s extra curricular programme by clicking on the link below – it is packed with useful sessions that will help you develop in lots of different directions and open up many new routes to success: all that and they are fun too!

plasma EXTRA CURRICULAR

Why not also look out for the new Homework Club programme? As its name implies, it is designed to give extra help and extension for students who are keen on going further to secure their success! There are sessions from every subject area and we are going to start new Before (8.15-8.50) and After School (3-4.00) Homework Clubs in the LRC after Easter: keep an eye open for more details!

Many thanks to all the staff who give up their time freely to make this extensive extra-curricular programme possible! You really do ‘make a difference!’
